Claudia González Burguete is an artist-led photographic practice exploring places, spaces, objects and fleeting moments through observation, light and composition.

 

The work begins with looking closely.

 

Rather than seeking only the immediately recognisable image of a subject or destination, Claudia is drawn to the quieter details that reveal its character: a change in light, the surface of a material, an architectural fragment, an object within a room, a gesture, a shadow or an otherwise overlooked moment.

 

Through this process, photography becomes a form of interpretation rather than simply documentation.

 

 

Photography

The photographic practice is centred on the relationship between observation and composition.

 

Places are not approached simply as destinations to be recorded, but as subjects to be studied. Interiors, architecture, landscapes, objects and everyday details are examined through the relationships between light, material, colour, proportion and atmosphere that give them their particular character.

 

The resulting photographs move between the descriptive and the personal. They retain a connection to the places and objects from which they originate while allowing detail, abstraction and atmosphere to create another way of seeing them.

 

The approach can be expressed as:

OBSERVE → COMPOSE → CAPTURE → REFINE

• Observe — look beyond the immediate impression to discover the details, relationships and moments that give a subject its character.

• Compose — establish relationships between light, form, colour, material and space.

• Capture — translate the observed moment into a photographic image.

• Refine — develop the image as part of a considered and recognisable visual language.

 

The intention is not simply to photograph a place, but to create a study of it.

 

 

Gallery – Curated

The virtual Gallery presents a curated selection of photographic works by Claudia González Burguete.

 

Rather than functioning as a conventional photography portfolio, the Gallery provides a space in which selected photographs, series and exhibitions can be experienced as artistic works in their own right.

 

Images may be brought together through place, subject, theme or visual relationship, allowing connections to emerge between photographs created at different moments and in different contexts.

 

The Gallery represents a deliberately selected body of work rather than the entirety of Claudia's photographic output.

 

Not every photograph enters the Gallery. Selection and curation transform individual images into photographic studies and bodies of work intended for artistic presentation.

 

The Gallery is where photographs are curated.

 

 

Archive – Collected

The Archive is an evolving photographic diary of places visited, everyday observations and moments encountered along the way.

 

Organised through place and time, it brings together photographs beyond the curated Gallery—from architecture, landscapes and objects to streets, details, events, competition entries and spontaneous daily observations.

 

Some images remain individual records of a particular place or moment. Others may later reveal relationships with photographs made elsewhere and become part of a photographic study, exhibition, publication or wider body of work.

 

The Archive is therefore not simply a repository. It is an expanding visual record of what has been seen, noticed and remembered, and a continuing source from which new work may emerge.

 

The Archive is where photographs are collected.

 

 

Publications – Published

Books and printed works provide another way of experiencing the photographic practice.

 

Where the Gallery creates curated bodies of work and the Archive preserves an evolving photographic record, a publication gives selected photographs a fixed sequence and enduring form.

 

Through scale, rhythm, juxtaposition and progression, images can develop relationships that may not exist when they are encountered individually.

 

Publications dedicated primarily to Claudia González Burguete's photographic work retain her photographic authorship while being brought into published form through Catarina Publishing.

 

Her photographs may also contribute to wider creative publications and collaborative projects while retaining their individual authorship.

 

Publications are where selected photographic work is given published form.

 

 

Studies of Place

Across the photographic practice, Gallery, Archive and Publications, the work is connected by observation.

 

The camera becomes a means of looking more carefully: isolating details, discovering relationships and preserving moments that might otherwise disappear.

 

A place is understood not only through its landmarks or immediate appearance, but through its architecture, landscape, people, culture, objects, events, details and everyday moments.

 

The resulting body of work moves between place and memory, observation and interpretation, document and atmosphere.

 

Claudia González Burguete does not simply photograph destinations; she creates studies of place.
