Catarina Atelier is a multidisciplinary design practice exploring interiors, spaces and objects through a considered dialogue between material, proportion and atmosphere.

 

Rooted in the idea of the atelier as a place of creativity, experimentation and making, the practice approaches design through composition. Space, light, material, colour, furniture, objects and art are considered not as isolated elements, but as parts of a coherent whole.

 

 

Interiors

Catarina Atelier approaches interiors as compositions of space, material and atmosphere.

 

Each project begins with an understanding of place: its proportions, architecture, light, purpose and character. From there, materials, furniture, objects, colour and detail are brought together to create environments that feel considered rather than prescribed.

 

The aim is not to impose a particular style, but to develop an individual language appropriate to each space—balancing function and character, permanence and change, restraint and expression.

 

The result is an approach to interiors that is quiet, timeless and distinctly personal.

 

 

Objects

Objects are an integral part of how a space is experienced.

 

Catarina Atelier explores objects through their relationship with material, proportion, function and surroundings—from furniture and decorative pieces to individually conceived elements developed for a particular interior or creative project.

 

An object may stand independently or form part of a larger spatial composition. In either case, the same principles apply: attention to material, scale and detail, and to the relationship between the object and the environment it inhabits.

 

This allows the Atelier to move naturally between interiors and objects, treating both as different expressions of the same design language.

 

 

Spatial Practice

Beyond interiors and objects, Catarina Atelier undertakes selected creative projects in which composition, curation and visual direction are central to the work.

 

These may include styling, art direction, visual studies and carefully conceived books or editions.

 

The connection lies in composition. Whether working with a physical space, an arrangement of objects or a sequence of images on a page, the Atelier considers how individual elements relate to one another and how those relationships shape the experience of the whole.

 

A photographic anthology, for example, may become a Catarina Atelier project when the selection, sequencing, scale, typography and relationship between images are fundamental to the creative identity of the finished work. In this context, the book is approached not simply as a container for content, but as a designed object and visual experience.

 

Individual creative authorship remains distinct. Photography incorporated into an Atelier project may, for example, be credited to Claudia González Burguete, while the concept, curation and design belong to Catarina Atelier.

Whether working with a room, an object or a page, the principle remains the same: individual elements acquire meaning through their relationship to the whole.
