González Burguete Editions is the objects and collections enterprise of González Burguete, concerned with the creation, curation and development of distinctive objects, collections and limited editions.

 

Its work occupies the space between creation and selection: conceiving new objects, discovering pieces with character, bringing them into considered relationships, commissioning new work and developing collections through collaboration with makers, craftspeople and specialist workshops.

 

At its centre is an interest in the qualities that give an object lasting character: material, method, craftsmanship, authorship, provenance and design.

 

Its approach is expressed through three ideas:

Create

Creation introduces something new.

An object may begin with an idea, a material, a technique, a function or a collaboration with a particular maker.

 

González Burguete Editions provides a framework within which objects and collections can be conceived, commissioned and developed, either independently or in collaboration with designers, artists, craftspeople and specialist workshops.

 

Creation does not necessarily imply uniform production. Limited quantities, variations in material and evidence of the hand can form part of the identity and character of an edition.

 

The objective is not simply to produce more things, but to create objects with a reason to exist.

 

 

Curate

Curation begins with selection.

 

Objects are considered not merely for their category or function, but for the quality of their design, materials, craftsmanship and individual character.

 

Through curation, objects from different makers, places, materials and traditions can be brought into dialogue while retaining their individual identities.

 

Selection therefore becomes a creative act in itself.

 

A collection provides context, allowing an object to be understood both independently and through its relationship with the objects around it.

 

 

Evolve

Collections are capable of changing and developing over time.

 

New materials can be explored. New makers can be discovered. Collaborations can develop. A single object can inspire a collection, and a collection can establish the foundations of a new specialist identity.

 

For this reason, González Burguete Editions is conceived as an evolving platform rather than an expression of a single fixed aesthetic.

 

CREATE · CURATE · EVOLVE expresses this continuing movement between discovering, creating, developing and reinterpreting objects and collections.

 

 

A Platform for Objects & Collections

González Burguete Editions provides the wider framework through which specialist collections, collaborations and independent brands can develop.

 

Its first specialist identity, Maniera, is dedicated to artisanal and decorative objects and explores the relationship between material, hand, method and object.

 

González Burguete Editions, however, is broader than any single brand. Future identities may explore different materials, forms, methods or categories without being required to adopt Maniera's particular aesthetic or philosophy.

 

This structure allows each specialist identity to remain focused while González Burguete Editions provides continuity across the wider enterprise.

 

 

Objects with Context

Across creation, curation and collection, González Burguete Editions is concerned with objects that carry meaning beyond function alone.
