Virgin Thoughts: Poems of Love and Heartbreak
Some loves become relationships. Some become memories. And some change us forever.
Virgin Thoughts: Poems of Love and Heartbreak is an intimate collection of 22 poems written by Claudia González Burguete across fifteen years, exploring love, heartbreak, longing, friendship, hope, frustration and self-discovery.
Written at different moments and inspired by genuine feelings and lived experiences, the poems trace a changing understanding of love—from the excitement and vulnerability of falling in love to disappointment, difficult decisions, emotional renewal and the discovery that happiness can also begin from within.
At its heart, the collection is not concerned with only one kind of love. It explores , and the different ways in which relationships can shape who we become.
Love & Longing
Love appears throughout the collection in many forms.
Some poems explore the excitement and uncertainty of opening your heart to another person: the anticipation, dreams and vulnerability that accompany the possibility of falling in love.
Others consider longing and illusion—the person, relationship or future we imagine and the emotional distance that can exist between what we hope for and what ultimately happens.
The poems ask familiar but difficult questions:
What does it mean to love someone? What happens when two hearts do not feel the same?
Heartbreak & Disillusionment
Not every relationship develops as imagined.
Melancholy, loneliness, frustration and disappointment form another part of the collection, reflecting moments when expectations change, feelings are not returned or a relationship reaches an unexpected conclusion.
Rather than treating heartbreak simply as an ending, the poems consider what remains afterwards: memory, understanding and the possibility of moving forward.
Friendship, Family & Companionship
Love also exists beyond romantic relationships.
The collection reflects on friendship, companionship and family, including the people who become important parts of our lives and the sometimes delicate boundary between friendship and romantic feeling.
These relationships provide another perspective on connection: affection that may take a different form but can be equally significant.
Self-Love & Renewal
Across the fifteen years represented in the collection, another idea gradually emerges: learning to find happiness and value within yourself.
Poems about self-love, hope and renewal consider how disappointment can become an opportunity for reflection and how difficult experiences can eventually lead towards greater independence and understanding.
Love becomes not only something sought from another person, but something that can begin within.
Dreams & Perseverance
The collection also moves beyond relationships into dreams, choices and the determination to continue pursuing what matters.
Poems such as reflect on perseverance and the courage required to follow a different path, even when the outcome remains uncertain.
Places and experiences—from —form part of the memories and circumstances surrounding the writing, connecting emotion with particular moments in Claudia's life.
Fifteen Years in Poetry
From An Instant with You and My Melancholy to I Am Feeling in Love, Hopelessness, Reaching Your Dreams and See You Later, the 22 poems preserve different stages of love, relationships and personal development.
Their language remains intentionally sincere and direct, reflecting the feelings and experiences from which they emerged.
Read together, they create more than a collection about falling in and out of love. They trace the gradual recognition that love can take many forms—and that disappointment, friendship, hope, independence and self-understanding can all become part of the same emotional journey.
Love can make us dream. Love can break our hearts. And sometimes, love can teach us how to find ourselves again.

Voyage Within: Poems of Friendship and Life
Sometimes the greatest adventure isn't travelling somewhere new; it's discovering the person you are becoming.
Voyage Within: Poems of Friendship and Life is the second volume in the Virgin Thoughts Series, bringing together 23 poems written by Claudia González Burguete across fifteen years.
Reflective and personal, the collection explores friendship, resilience, dreams, change, uncertainty and personal growth through different moments and experiences in Claudia's life.
Some poems celebrate life and human connection. Others confront frustration, disappointment and the uncertainty of moving in a new direction. Throughout the collection runs a recurring idea: the importance of continuing to dream, grow and move forward.
Friendship & Connection
Friendship, family and human connection form an important part of the collection.
The poems reflect on the people who accompany us through different stages of life: those who provide friendship and support, those who influence the direction we take, and those whose presence becomes part of the memories we carry with us.
Works such as explore the value of companionship and the relationships that help shape our individual journeys.
Change & Self-Discovery
Life rarely develops exactly as expected.
Voyage Within reflects on moments of transition, uncertainty and new beginnings, considering the questions that emerge when familiar circumstances change or a different direction begins to appear.
The poems explore introspection and self-discovery: understanding what matters, learning from experience and developing the confidence to move towards something new.
At different points, the collection asks:
Where am I going? What do I really want? Do I have the courage to change direction? And what might I discover about myself along the way?
Dreams & Possibility
Dreams and ambition provide another recurring thread.
Poems such as , and consider the excitement of possibility alongside the uncertainty involved in pursuing something that has not yet been achieved.
Rather than presenting dreams as effortless aspirations, the collection explores the relationship between opportunity, determination and the willingness to continue working towards a goal.
Resilience & Perseverance
Not every journey moves forward easily.
Frustration, disappointment and unexpected obstacles form part of life, and several poems reflect on the resilience required when circumstances do not follow the path originally imagined.
The collection considers endurance, patience and consistency—not simply as responses to difficulty, but as qualities that allow change and progress to continue over time.
Keep dreaming. Keep growing. Keep moving forward.
Living in the Present
Alongside ambition and movement, also considers the importance of slowing down.
Poems reflect on appreciating the present, allowing time for relaxation and recognising the everyday moments that make life meaningful.
I Am Alive and Feeling Alive, among others, explore the experience of being present within life rather than continually looking towards what comes next.
Places & Memories
As with , places form part of the memories surrounding the poems.
Experiences connected with provide geographical and emotional reference points throughout the collection, linking personal reflection with particular moments and periods of Claudia's life.
Place becomes part of memory, while memory becomes part of the writing.
Fifteen Years of Reflection
From I am Alive and My Best Friend to My Adventrue, Feeling Alive, An Amazing Path, My Cherrish Dream and Consistency, the 23 poems preserve different reflections on friendship, ambition, uncertainty and life itself.
Written across fifteen years, they also reveal how ideas about dreams, resilience, friendship and personal growth can change as experience accumulates.
Together, the poems form an inward journey shaped not by a single destination, but by the continuing process of becoming.
Sometimes the greatest adventure isn't travelling somewhere new; it's discovering the person you are becoming.

Metamorphosis: Poems of Farewell and Transformation
Because an ending doesn't always mean the story is over. Sometimes, it is where the transformation begins.
Metamorphosis: Poems of Farewell and Transformation is the third volume in the Virgin Thoughts Series, bringing together 24 poems written by Claudia González Burguete across eleven years.
First published in 2025, the collection explores farewell, loss, love, memory and personal transformation through experiences of saying goodbye to people, relationships, places and former ways of life.
The poems trace an emotional journey from endings towards renewal: mourning what has been lost, preserving what remains through memory, rediscovering independence and gradually finding the confidence to imagine a different future.
Farewell & Loss
Every goodbye carries its own meaning.
Some poems reflect on grief and the loss of loved ones, considering the memories and stories through which people continue to remain part of our lives.
Others explore different kinds of farewell: the ending of a relationship, leaving a familiar place, changing direction or recognising that a particular chapter of life has reached its conclusion.
From to , the poems consider not only what disappears when something ends, but what remains.
Love & Memory
Love continues throughout , but its character changes.
The collection moves between first love, brief relationships, heartbreak, family and friendship, reflecting on the different ways people leave traces within our lives.
Memory becomes particularly important. Experiences may end, people may leave and circumstances may change, yet individual moments can remain through stories, places and photographs.
Photography becomes part of this relationship with memory: a means of preserving moments that might otherwise exist only in recollection.
Places & Belonging
Some farewells are to places.
Poems including Goodbye to My Mexico and Goodbye to My London reflect on the emotional relationship between place, identity and belonging.
Mexico, London and England become more than geographical locations. They represent different periods of life, relationships, experiences and versions of home.
Leaving a place can therefore become another form of transformation: carrying part of the past forward while beginning again somewhere else.
Metamorphosis
At the centre of the collection is My Metamorphosis.
Here, transformation becomes more than simply responding to change. It becomes a process of looking back, understanding what has happened and deciding what should come next.
Old passions can be rediscovered. New personal and professional goals can emerge. Independence can be rebuilt. Plans that once appeared certain can give way to possibilities that had not previously been imagined.
Metamorphosis is therefore not about forgetting the past, but allowing experience to become part of what comes next.
Starting Over
The later poems move increasingly towards renewal.
My New Adventure, My Metamorphosis and Starting Over explore the uncertainty and possibility of rebuilding after significant change.
Starting again does not mean returning to the beginning. It means moving forward with the knowledge, memories and experiences accumulated along the way.
The collection considers self-love, independence, new ambitions and the unexpected opportunities that can emerge when carefully made plans change.
Gradually, farewell becomes possibility.
Eleven Years of Transformation
Written across eleven years, the 24 poems preserve different stages of loss, change and rediscovery.
Read together, they create an emotional progression:
FAREWELL → MEMORY → TRANSFORMATION → RENEWAL
The collection begins with endings but does not remain there.
It moves through grief, relationships, family, friendship, place and memory towards greater independence, stability, inner peace and the possibility of creating new dreams.
Metamorphosis is ultimately about learning that saying goodbye—to a person, relationship, home, dream or former version of yourself—does not necessarily mean that the story has ended.
Every goodbye changes us. Every ending leaves a mark. And sometimes, losing the life we knew is how we discover who we are becoming.
