My London 2012 Olympic Story: How My Life in London Allowed Me to Become Part of Olympic History is Claudia González Burguete's personal account of experiencing one of the most memorable sporting events of a generation—not only as a spectator and London resident, but as a volunteer performer in both the Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

 

The story begins with London winning the Olympic bid in 2005 and follows Claudia's growing excitement as the city prepared to welcome the world.

 

What began as an interest in experiencing the Games gradually became something much more personal.

 

 

Becoming Part of London 2012

Claudia's journey took her from applying and auditioning to become a volunteer performer through months of secret rehearsals and, eventually, into the Olympic Stadium itself.

 

She participated in the spectacular London 2012 Opening Ceremony and returned for the Closing Ceremony, experiencing both from a perspective very different from that of the millions watching around the world.

 

The book recalls the anticipation, rehearsals, people and extraordinary atmosphere surrounding the ceremonies, documenting what it felt like to move from watching Olympic history to becoming a small part of it.

 

 

Experiencing the Games

London 2012 extended far beyond the ceremonies.

 

As a spectator, Claudia experienced events including basketball, hockey, handball, table tennis and football, while exploring a host city transformed by the arrival of the Olympic Games.

 

Her story moves through Olympic Park, Hyde Park and international hospitality houses, capturing not simply the sporting competition but the atmosphere that spread across London during the summer of 2012.

 

The journey continued through the Paralympic Games, from the Opening Ceremony to cycling, athletics, swimming, wheelchair basketball and other events.

 

Through these different experiences, the book creates a personal record of what the Olympic and Paralympic Games felt like from within the host city.
